These drawings serve as a way to further explore fleeting ideas and sketches and help decide what may hold potential to further explore as paintings—some lifted from dreams, others from my sketchbook. They read like hallucinatory memories, fragile, distorted yet holding a story or a fragment of a whole. By sealing them in wax, I note at the preservation of the impermanent and imperfect and sometimes distorted memory. The wax itself, an unpredictable and often unruly medium, mirrors the way memory resists control it cracks, pools, and reshapes as it hardens. What results is both a preservation and a distortion- a calcified memory of sorts.
