I question the displacement of species due to both habitat loss and climate change, and their adjustment to a different new world. The black bear population in California is at its highest ever, largely due to their unique adaptability to humans and our removal of some of their competitors, such as the grizzly bear and wolves, from the land. In it, I am trying to challenge our preconceived and/or romanticized notions about natural selection. We don't necessarily notice the bears around us, but we would pay attention to colorful bee-eater birds. The title is a line from the old song 'Moon river'.
