"This painting was inspired by an old forest service photograph from the turn of the century of a man on horseback looking through the trees. I was struck by the long shadows of the trees and loved the idea of the horse and rider being surrounded by tall straight pine trees and partially obscured. The rider is looking out, surveying, and the golden light can be seen illuminating one side of the trees with the hard long shadows peeling down away. I wanted the horse to glow with yellows and warm tones while the foreground and background had complimentary purple and blue tones." - Drew Christie
