“This painting is really about exploring the textures of old wood, soft snow and shadows. I was really taken with the old barn wood of this old structure and the contrast between light snow, dark wood, and then a lighter colored bull in front of the dark wood structure. I have long been fascinated with how light reflects off of snow in the winter and creates brilliant light blues and golden yellows in the snow. Longhorn cattle have amazing and dramatically shaped horns, then from light cast shadows of their horns such dramatic shapes are created. I always wonder what these bulls (and other animals) think when they look right at you and it seems they are telling us something or asking a question, but what is it?” - Drew Christie
