Drew Christie

Drawing on his years of experience as an award-winning illustrator and animator, Drew Christie's oil paintings marry the rugged dusty landscapes of the American West with the dreamlike realms of surrealism and magical realism.

Through unexpected and sometimes humorous juxtapositions and iconography, he conjures scenes that blur the boundaries between reality and fantastical.

Each painting by Drew Christie tells a story, inviting the viewers to venture beyond the tangible into the realms where cowboy hats levitate like UFOs and horses jump over ghost towns. His compositions are imbued with a sense of narrative mystery and playfulness, urging the audience to unearth the hidden narratives within each canvas.

The artist draws inspiration from the acid westerns of the late 60's and early 70's, the literature of Cormac McCarthy, and the paintings of Maynard Dixon, Remington, and the Taos Society of Artists among many, many others.

As an animation director, his films have screened at the Sundance Film Festival, SFMoMA, as well as HBO, Hulu, AppleTV, Showtime and many other networks, outlets and festivals. His family roadtrips with his wife and son through the southwest have been fueling his recent paintings.
